FAQs
Coll Bunkhouse is in the village of Arinagour, and is roughly a 15-minute walk from the ferry terminal. If you are concerned about getting from the ferry terminal to the Bunkhouse, please give us a call. It’s not unusual on Coll for walkers to be offered a lift by passing traffic.
Coll is a fantastic island for walking or cycling, and bikes can be hired from Coll Post Office or brought across on the ferry with you.
Our 4-bed room, Fraoch, is booked as a room and so guests have exclusive use. Our 6-bed dorms (Bliochan and Sobhrach) are mixed gender but we are happy to accommodate single-gender requests as and when we can practically do so. Please contact us if you have a query of this nature.
Coll Bunkhouse is a modern custom-build, with level access throughout and has an accessible WC with shower. We recommend our 4-bed room, Fraoch, for users of wheelchairs, and are happy to discuss your requirements if you have further queries. A previous customer very kindly submitted a review to Euan’s Guide and you may find it helpful to read it here.
All bedding is supplied. You can book a towel for a nominal charge of £2 for the duration of your stay, or you can request one on arrival.
You are welcome to bring up to 2 well-behaved dogs, but we do require your party to have exclusive use of a room. There is a small charge of £10 for the duration of your stay. Please note that for the comfort of other guests, dogs are not allowed in the living/dining area. However, they would not be far away in the entrance passage or just outside the patio doors enjoying the weather. The grounds are contained by gates and a cattle grid.
Yes. Island Stores (grocery shop) and T.E.S.Coll complement each other and, between them, serve the island well with a super variety of produce. Special dietary requirements are well-catered for. Both shops are happy to receive orders to be collected on arrival on Coll.
The village of Arinagour is home to two well-established family businesses, the Coll Hotel and the Island Café. Both restaurants use local produce where possible and, with the two restaurants complementing each other, you will not be stuck for choice. The hotel offers the same menu whether you dine in the restaurant or the bar areas.
Coll’s Post Office is open 6 mornings a week and can provide cash withdrawals for most bank cards. Both restaurants accept card payment, as does T.E.S.Coll.
We are happy to offer you a revised arrival date, where possible, as we do hope that you will have the opportunity to visit our beautiful island. The remote nature of our island means that we do not generally benefit from passing trade that can allow us to resell cancelled beds. Therefore, if you do not wish to select an alternative date, bookings cancelled less than 28 days prior to arrival may be subject to a charge equal to 10% of the stay, and bookings cancelled less than 14 days before arrival may be subject to a charge equal to the full booking amount. If your ferry or flight to Coll fails to land on Coll then we will refund you for the affected night. Customers with longer stays booked are asked to arrive at the next possible opportunity.
Coll Bunkhouse has free wifi for its customers and the community centre, An Cridhe, has public wifi available using an honesty box payment system. Vodafone, EE and O2 provide a 4G mobile service via our community-owned mobile mast, and this serves much of the island although you will find some black spots out west, and considerably more as you head towards the north of the island.
